Cleveland Indians at the All-Star Break

Well folks, we’re halfway through the season and the Cleveland Indians are in a position essentially no one outside the organization could have predicted. A half game behind the Detroit Tigers for the lead in the American League Central, the Tribe appears to break the trend of selling, and may perhaps look to add a few veteran players to deliver in the postseason.

Excluding strong first halves from Justin Masterson, Josh Tomlin, and Carlos Carrasco, the Indians are in desperate need of starting pitchers. The poor play of Fausto Carmona and Mitch Talbot leave gaping holes in the middle of the rotation. Don’t look for the tribe to break the bank and go after an ace, but expect them to be active in negotiations for a veteran arm at a reasonable price.

Due to the injury of Shin-Soo Choo, and the disappearance of Grady Sizemore’s offense, the Indians could benefit mightily from some consistency at the plate. Again, don’t expect the Indians to make a major splash at the deadline, however, a solid hitting outfielder could pay major dividends.

Good post. I have a question though, what do the indians need to do better to secure a spot in the playoffs?

Definitely agree it’s been a surprise season! It’s been a long time since Cleveland baseball has been this much fun,
